Microsoft Office to Be Rebranded as Microsoft 365

According to the company’s FAQs page, Microsoft will now be eliminating the Office logo from its Word, Excel, PowerPoint, as well as other apps. Now, Microsoft Office will Rebranded as Microsoft 365.

In an effort to promote the use of Office 365 service as more than just a business tool, Microsoft changed the name of the service to Microsoft 365 in April 2020.  

Microsoft is also upgrading its present square logo with a six-sided one as part of the rebranding.

The company’s FAQs states that, the modifications will take effect starting next month. The makeover would move on to Microsoft’s free cloud-based offerings. Also, the renamed Office app for Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android will go live in January 2023.

Moreover, Microsoft will eventually offer a centralized Microsoft 365 software. Both desktop and mobile devices that will act as a single core for data, meetings, files, and documents.

Plus, the centralized application will display a feed of pertinent coworkers who the user can connect with.

According to the company’s FAQs page, the extension names for programs including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Outlook, Clipchamp, Stream, and Designer will not change.

Additionally, Microsoft stated that its “Office 365 subscription plans” will not expand. Office branding will present on single purchase made by users via Office 2021 and Office LTSC, which are being sold on bulk licensing model.

According to the Microsoft FAQ, “Office.com, the Office mobile app, and the Office software for Windows will transform into the Microsoft 365 app in the following months. It will come up with a new icon, new style, and further functionality.”

Since Microsoft’s productivity suite has been around for more than 30 years, this adjustment represents the first significant branding update.

Based on a report by The Verge, the previous Microsoft Office will now reflect as a heritage brand for Microsoft, meaning that new features announced will be going to rebranded Microsoft 365 and not Microsoft Office.
